Technician Engineer

Role Summary

Assisting the manufacturing and test function throughout the business including the day-to-day requirements of the production department as a technician engineer, you'll use your technical knowledge along with manufacturing skills to provide support to the production manager on a range of products. You’ll assist production with day to day manufacturing requirements. RFX is totally focussed in providing its customers with the best service in the electronics industry. We expect you to maintain that focus when carrying out the duties below.

Main Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Final test and preparation of company product for shipment
  • Testing of newly built units to ensure proper functioning, especially in terms of frequency and current. Good computer skills will be required.
  • Fitting of components to populated PCB boards and putting on bases for initial testing. A steady hand will be required to achieve good solder finishes.
  • Visual check of tested units prior to sealing. It is a requirement that this work is carried out under a microscope.
  • Setting up, operating, and monitoring complex manufacturing equipment
  • Immediately report any deviations to materials, facilities, processes, or procedures to the Production Manager.
  • Contributing to the development of the company’s future strategy
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement and ensure these are communicated to the management team.
  • Working on change controls with enthusiasm and diligence
  • Working within a team and maintaining effective working relations with all other personnel
  • Maintaining and developing a knowledge of the latest production techniques
  • Meeting regular manufacturing and production targets
  • Carrying out any reasonable request from your line manager

  • Helping in the design of custom-made products
  • Analysis of production costs
  • Controlling and maintaining the company’s production test equipment

Education

  • A good general standard of education is required and any technical qualifications would be an advantage

Location

  • Your normal place of work is at the company’s West Lothian based head office; however, the role will require national and international business travel involving nights away

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • A degree or HND in an engineering related subject, ideally electronics

Essential Experience

  • Understanding of production and test practices
  • High manual dexterity
  • Highly organised with effective time management skills

Desirable Experience

  • Certifications an advantage including IPC610 and J STD soldering
  • Production experience
  • Experience in forging new production techniques
  • Electronics industry experience
  • Knowledge of tools, concepts and methodologies of production

  • English
