New high frequency OCXO for Satellite, Radar and GHz Systems

The new OS936M-10 high stability Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator (OCXO) from RFX offers frequencies up to 1000MHz whilst still delivering low harmonics, extremely low ageing and excellent Allan Deviation performance. Designed around an in-house manufactured precision SC cut crystal, frequency stability is ±5ppb over a wide -40 to 65 Deg. C operating temperature range.

Harmonics in electronic circuits can cause disturbances in communication networks; the OS936M-10 limits the harmonics to -35dBc and the sub-harmonics to -40dBc. Short term ageing is ±0.1ppb maximum per day whilst long term ageing is ±80ppb maximum per year, both measures after 30 days continuous operation. In addition, the new model offers excellent phase noise performance for a multiplied frequency design at -150dBc/Hz @ 100kHz. The OS936-10M has a one second Allan Deviation of approximately 1.5x10-10 for a 400MHz output providing for a highly stable frequency source.

Both standard and custom frequencies can be manufactured from 150MHz up to 1000MHz. Sine wave output compatibility is combined with a choice of supply voltages at 3.3Vd.c., 5Vd.c., or 12Vd.c. The new model is Stratum 3E compliant; long term and 24-hour holdover to Stratum 3E levels specified in GR-1244-CORE issue 2 and GR-63-CORE issue 1.

Housed in a 36 x 26.5mm hermetically sealed package with a height of only 10mm, the OS936M-10 is fully RoHS compliant and meets vibration, mechanical and thermal shock to MIL standard 202F. Design-in samples are ex-stock; lead time for production quantities is 12 weeks.

Typical applications include satellite links, radar and high frequency local oscillators (typical in up and down convertors at the first stage) for GHz systems. Notes for Editors:
Established in 1994, RFX is a specialist frequency product manufacturer with production plants in the UK and Canada.

The company designs and manufactures innovative standard and bespoke high frequency precision OCXO, TCXO, VCXO and PLL oscillators from 1MHz to 2.4GHz and GPS synchronised precision OCXO modules from its modern production unit based in Livingston, Scotland. Our quartz crystal division, Laptech Precision Inc., manufactures precision quartz resonators from its 15,000ft2 (1,400m2) facility in Ontario, Canada.

RFX’s oscillators are used in a multitude of worldwide applications including GPS Satellite Navigation Systems, Satellite Positioning Systems, Mobile Telephone Base Stations, System Networks including ATM, SDH, STM, Sonet, WAN and LAN Networks and Precision Measuring Equipment. A previous recipient of a ‘Queen’s Award for Innovation’, RFX is accredited to ‘Investors in People’, ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and ISO 14001 Environmental Management.

As pioneers in industrial lapping and polishing techniques, Laptech Precision, established in 1972 and acquired by RFX in 2010, supplies specialist quartz crystals to oscillator manufacturers worldwide as well as high quality components to instrumentation and telecom industries. Laptech also offers quartz and alloy precision lapping and polishing to exacting parallel and optical polish standards. Continued factory development with new clean room facilities and equipment for crystal production to 500MHz keeps Laptech at the forefront of quartz resonator design.
